Paper-Thin Hearts
Unpublished, seeking a literary agent for representation.
Paper-Thin Hearts is an 84,000-word literary novel that follows the misfortunes of the Morettis, an Italian family that accidentally becomes part of the mafia in New York. The story takes place over a 3-month period in 1961, with the majority of it focusing on the family’s reluctant Godfather, Pete Moretti. Although the plot deals with crime and mobsters, the story is told through a comedic lens.
Most of the problems in Psycho Pete Moretti’s life stem from the hard luck of having been born into a family of gangsters. As the son of a trigger-happy godfather, Pete wants nothing to do with crime or murder. When his father dies, leaving him as the successor to the family business, he realizes that it’s time to mount an escape plan. But Pete isn’t a fool – he understands the only way out of the mob is in a body bag. To avoid being murdered by his own family’s hitman, Pete draws up an out-of-this-world solution that will erase his previous life as a mob boss. But despite his best efforts to escape quietly, his mafia-loving sister, Sophia Darling, keeps thrusting the Moretti family into the New York City limelight, causing Pete to rethink his priorities.
